As the LAX PUPS mini-doc was released in June of 2020, there were a few other activities going on simultaneously.

The first was that Jean Meyer, who has interviewed me on her Pet Talk radio show in the past, and I, were in contact. She was aware that my new films were coming out and invited me to be a guest again. I always enjoy being her guest- she’s a lovely interviewer and very supportive of my work. So as soon as the LAX PUPS mini was ready to launch, Jean and I set up the interview.

Around the same time, my friend, Tracey recommended that Voyage LA interview me about Animal Magic films for the local online magazine.

Getting press is great and at some point, it will be an active part of what I do to share my work. But I decided not to actively pursue further press at this time for a variety of reasons. If, however, any other invitations came my way, I would accept. A few months later I was invited to an interview with Divas That Care, which was lovely. And as I write this blog there are a few other invitations as well.

Real Simple Magazine also ran a short piece about dog adoption that cited me as one of the experts and the author of What to Expect When Adopting a Dog. Not directly related to the films but good press anyway, and the first time I had appeared in a major magazine.

The other task at hand was that even though grad school was officially done, due to COVID-19, the Fast Pitch (mentioned in Diane’s Diary 29) was pushed from April to June. I wanted to create a short reel of my work in order to include it in the presentation. I was grateful that we had filmed a few mini-docs so I could grab clips and show samples of our work.

I also joined Toastmasters so that I could practice my pitch. I figured that at some point I would be speaking publicly anyway and it’s all good practice.

All this to say, June was busy with the launch, some press, Toastmasters, and the Fast Pitch. I had big thoughts that as soon as school was done I would be off and running with the feature films but things don’t always go the way we expect them… do they…?

Keep tuning in to find out how they do go!
